League Award Winners

The North Central Hockey League has announced its post-season awards.

Derek Falloon of the Russell Rams has been selected as the winner of the Doug Harrison Memorial Trophy as the Most Valuable Player for the 2016-17 regular season.

The former Yorkton Terrier finished third in the league scoring race with 27 goals and 37 assists for 64 points helping lead his team to a second place finish in the North Division.

Curtis Oliver of the Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks was named the winner of the Darryl Brown Memorial Trophy for being the Most Gentlemanly Player. The award is given to the player who best exemplifies a high level of skill, plays hard and still maintains a high level of sportsmanship.

Oliver finished fourth in league scoring with 21 goals and 22 assists for 43 points, while taking just two minor penalties.

The award for Top Defenseman goes to Dillon Stonehouse of the Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks. The veteran rearguard was a rock on the C-Hawks blueline, and also finished 12th in league scoring with 11 goals and 21 assists.

Brock Paddock of the Rivers Rams was selected as the league’s Top Rookie. Paddock led the Rams in scoring with 15 goals and 12 assists.

Curtis Gardham and Kyle McLeod, teammates with the Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks, tied for the league scoring title. Both players had 66 points, with Gardham having 31 goals and 35 assists, while McLeod scored 19 goals and added 47 helpers.

Miniota-Elkhorn also won the league goaltending title. The trio of Cory Gardham, Ian Oliver and Cody Rookes allowed just 78 goals in 20 games for a 3.90 goals against average.
